Communitech Entrepreneur Services
The entrepreneur services group at Communitech provides direct assistance and referrals on any business issues faced by startups, early-stage companies and other small or medium-sized businesses.Services are provided free of charge to both Communitech members and non-members, thanks to financial support from Industry Canada's IRAP and the Ontario Ministry of Research and Innovation.
Some common issues that companies seek help with include:
- Attracting investors (angels or VCs) and other sources of funding
- Refining a business plan and pitch
- Marketing strategy
- General business strategy
- Receiving mentoring from experienced tech CEOs
- Information about other programs and organizations serving the startup market, including government programs
- Referrals to legal and accounting expertise and other service providers with experience helping tech startups
- Referrals to other potential suppliers
- Meeting and learning from others working at tech startups in the area
Executives-in-residence
Included in Communitech's entrepreneur services is its executives-in-residence (EIR) program. The current EIRs are Kevin Tuer and Dan Mathers They provide ongoing mentoring and advice to startup entrepreneurs.Other
Working through Communitech's entrepreneur services, companies can also access the ViaTech network, providing companies with 90 minutes of free access to a panel of business experts to discuss whatever issues they choose.Communitech is also a sponsor of WatStart and BarCampWaterloo, which focus on the needs of startup and prospective entrepreneurs.
